(I really need to invest in Photoshop)
So, it’s been over a week and I’m still digesting Art in the Streets. As I walked out of the Geffen on April 14th, a writer for LAist and I discussed how overwhelming the exhibit was. I thought it was well done. At the members preview, some complained about how N.Y. focused it was. Of course it is! This isn’t Art in the Streets (of Los Angeles). Others have relentlessly complained about how their favorite artist was shunned, ignored, censored or otherwise kicked to the curb.
I personally would have liked to have seen Doze Green showcased here, but you know what, I’m not curating it. Without controversy there is no art, and when it comes to controversy the censured Blu mural wins hands down. Despite these distractions, Roger Gastman and Aaron Rose curated a fascinating, diverse look into street art, and I’ll leave it at that.
