On September 1 the Broad will place 50,000 tickets on sale online for its highly anticipated fall show and anxious Angelenos hitting refresh on their browsers might end up feeling like they’re in an endless infinity loop. Consider it visual dexterity training for Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrors opening in October.
The traveling exhibition’s L.A. layover will feature 6 of Kusama’s mirrored infinity rooms and the colorful audience aided, polka dot tagged Obliteration Room. On Monday the museum announced that all tickets for the show will go on sale at noon on 9/1 for $25.00 each. The announcement also predicted that the show will sell out save for a limited number of same-day tickets that will become available at the museum during the show’s run. Lines at the museum already run the perimeter of the building during the museum’s regular programming, so brace yourselves, the lines are about to get infinitely longer for a few golden tickets…

Questions about accessibility and the museum’s decision to charge $25.00 for a single show will likely be drowned out by the sheer demand for the rare opportunity to experience Kusama’s work. Hopefully the pre-allocation of tickets may alleviate the endless lines and the 2-3 hour wait times that Hirshhorn attendees suffered through in the spring.
